  • 7524/06 is the draft regulation for the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH), and establishing a European Chemicals Agency;

  • 7525/06 is the draft directive amending Council Directive 67/548/EEC2 relating to the classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous substances, in order to adapt it to the draft regulation on REACH.

Seconded European Standardisation Expert in China

The three European Standardisation Organisations - CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, the European Commission and EFTA have announced the appointment of Mr Klaus ZIEGLER as Seconded European Standardisation Expert in China, to be based in Beijing starting 1 July 2006 for a three year period.

Orgalime considered a representation office for European electrical and electronic industries in Beijing, China.

On 17 May 2006, Orgalime hosted the workshop, Keying into China,  with the aim of deciding whether to open a European industry office in China, financed by electrical and electronic engineering companies and associations, that would advocate our interests towards Chinese administrations and business partners with a view to:

- ensuring the use of ISO and IEC international standards and their adoption in the Chinese body of standards;
- influencing conditions for certification in China, in order to reduce costs, for example by way of greater transparency of entire procedures, recognition of test reports and simplification of works inspections;
- identifying Chinese national regulatory, standardisation and certification activity in a timely manner, and in the interests of harmonisation, to promote alternatives based upon international and European solutions; and
- setting up a network for the electrical and electronic industry with local businesses.
